- Bill C-9...the "Combating Hate Act". We've been concerned about this parliamentary bill that, while aiming to protect religious freedom in our country, essentially limits it. The bill defines "hatred" and creates four new offences in the Criminal Code, making it easier to lay charges for hate propaganda offences--including quotes from the Bible that could be interpreted as hate speech. The government has given notice it will move a motion on Monday, March 9 to limit debate on Bill C-9. Pray that wisdom will prevail with the Justice Committee reviewing the proposed re-wording of our Criminal Code, and not limiting the true intent of "religious freedom" in our country.
